This standard applies to belt conveyors for loose bulk materials and gives a basis for calculation and dimensioning.*This standard applies for belt conveyors for loose bulk materials and contains the basis for their calculation and dimensioning. It allows for the determination of essential requirements for important components of the belt conveyor such as drive, braking and belt clamping devices, depending on the conveying task, and describes a method to design the conveyor belt. The German Standard is internationally widely accepted which is also reflected by the early publication of an official English version of the standard. The rather complicated connections shall be clearly conveyed in particular for easier communication on an international level. The goal to find a simpler form to represent the relationships for the calculations and fundamentals which has been set in the previous edition has proven unrealistic. With respect to the previous editions, the representations have become rather more complicated by the addition of new knowledge. Due to the widespread application of EDP systems for calculation and design of belt conveyors, the more complex calculation has been given priority in the interests of technically improved and economical solutions. Wherever possible (for cases where high demands for accuracy can be waived), methods for simplified calculation are shown, however. The subsequent version published in 2002-08 has some shortcomings in formal terms and with regard to the content, which made it appropriate to consider a revision. In addition to the extension of the calculation methods for the resistances to motion, new definitions for start-up and brake factors and rationalization and supplementation of various standard clauses, the connections to other standards have been updated. This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 008-05-03 AA "Fördergurte" ("Conveyor belts") of the Mining Standards Committee (FABERG).
