Areas and volumes of buildings - Part 1: Building construction

This document deals with how to determine areas and volumes in building construction during the planning, execution and occupation phases. It applies to the areas and volumes of the buildings themselves and to site areas. This document sets out terms, definitions and rules on how to determine areas and volumes. It thus provides a basis for comparing buildings and sites as well as for calculating building costs in accordance with DIN 276-1 and the user costs of buildings in accordance with DIN 18960. The areas and volumes determined as specified in this document may also be used for other purposes (such as determining living or rental space) and serve as a basis for the required calculations. However, an assessment of areas and volumes in accordance with the relevant legal provisions is outside the scope of this standard. DIN EN 15221-6 applies to the measurement of areas and spaces in facility management.
