Testing of insulating oils; detection of corrosive sulfur; silber strip test

The silver strip test established by this standard is used for the determination of corrosive sulphur in electrical insulating oils according to DIN VDE 0370 part 1 and part 2. For the testing a silver strip is immersed for 18 h at a temperature of 100 øC in a sample of the insulating oil to be tested. The discolouring of the surface of the silver strip is an indicating for the amount of sulphur in the oil.
