Determination of the colour resilience of articles for common use - Test with saliva and perspiration simulants

This document specifies a procedure for testing the colour resilience of everyday objects to saliva simulants or to perspiration simulants. The method is intended in particular for such commodities that are intended to be put in the mouth, or for which it is foreseeable that they will be put in the mouth or come into contact with mucous membranes during use, or that they will come into contact with the skin during use. The test determines whether colourants can get into the mouth, onto the mucous membranes or onto the skin from the commodities. This document does not apply to articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs, or to parts of articles in use which functionally releasecolourants, or to articles in use where this is the case in their entirety. Examples are wax crayons and leads of crayons. The test method is applicable to all articles of daily use, irrespective of the method used for colouring (e. g. dyeing, staining, coating). Possible mechanical wear, e. g. exposure of a coloured layer after mechanical rubbing of a final coating, is not taken into account.
