Safety of machinery - Positioning of safeguards with respect to the approach speeds of parts of the human body (ISO 13855:2010); German version EN ISO 13855:2010

This document covers the positioning of safeguards with respect to the approach speeds of parts of the human body. This standard specifies parameters based on values for hand/arm and approach speeds and provides the methodology to determine the minimum distances from detection zones or actuating devices of protective equipment to a hazard zone. This standard specifies distances from the detection zone to the hazardous area. Protection against the risks from mechanical hazards arising from the ejection of solid or fluid materials and non-mechanical hazards such as toxic emissions, electricity, radiation etc. are not covered by this standard.*This standard describes the positioning of safeguards, for instance electro-sensitive protective equipment, pressure-sensitive protective equipment, two-hand control devices and interlocking guards without guard locking, with respect of the approach speeds of persons and body parts which have been proven in practice. It describes a procedure, which allows determining safety distances between the detection zone of special sensing or actuating devices to a hazard zone. This standard cancels and replaces DIN EN 999, whereby the new calculation methods for the determination of the minimum distance when overreaching and circumventing electro-sensitive protective equipment and in case of indirect access to the hazard zone behind the electro-sensitive protective equipment in clause 6 and the new clause 9 "Interlocking guards without guard locking" have to be emphasized. Furthermore, the standard contains, in addition to new and revised practical worked examples, four new annexes. In particular, the standard deals with aspects of safety and occupational safety. Being published as a generic safety standard (type C standard), the standard addresses especially designers of machines, equipment and plants and standard writers of machine safety standards (type C standards).
