Consequences classes for building constructions

The series of standards in the Eurocode system became mandatory in early 2009 for the documentation of load-bearing building structures in Denmark. With this, Eurocode 0 introduced the concept of 'consequence classes' as a tool to "...take into account the consequences of failure or malfunction of the construction..." (DS/EN 1990:2007). On this occasion, the concept of consequence class replaced the concept of 'safety class' from the previous standard system.**The terms 'safety class' and 'consequence class' have, in experience, been handled with some uncertainty both in construction case processing and design. This DS/INF describes and defines in more detail how the placement of constructions in consequence classes should be done. This achieves a reconciliation of expectations between authorities, builders and planners, as well as avoiding unnecessary construction costs and too low safety.**In the nature of the matter, the listed limit values and examples cannot cover all conceivable building forms, constructions and applications. Where you cannot therefore find help in this DS/INF, you are referred to an 'engineering assessment'.
