Copper, Copper Alloy, Carbon Steel, and Stainless Steel Piping Systems with Press-Type or Nail-Type Connections


1.1 This Standard covers press-type and nail-type connections achieved with (a) copper or copper alloy fittings and types K, L, and M tube; or (b) carbon steel or stainless steel fittings and schedules 5, 10, and 40 pipe. 1.2 This Standard specifies requirements for materials, physical characteristics, performance tests, and markings. 1.3 Products covered by this Standard include fittings, tube, and pipe with press-type or nail-type connections combined with other types of connections (e.g., threaded, soldered, and push-fit). 1.4 The purpose of this Standard is to enhance health and safety by: (a) specifying acceptable criteria for copper, copper alloy, carbon steel, and stainless steel tubing and piping systems with press-type or nail-type connections; and (b) serving as a guide for producers, distributors, architects, engineers, contractors, installers, inspectors, and users. 1.5 The requirements of this Standard are not intended to prevent the use of alternate materials or methods of construction provided such alternates meet the intent of this Standard. 1.6 Amendments to this Standard will be made after processing according to the standards writing procedures of IAPMO. 1.7 The user's attention is called to the possibility that compliance with this Standard may require use of an invention covered by patent rights.
