Recommended Practice: Lighting Airport Outdoor Environments
Intended Audience: Designers, architects, engineers, users, general public, environmentalists, utilities. Description: Planning and design of lighting systems for "airside", some "landside", and adjacent airport areas, including apron areas for commercial use, general aviation, cargo, hangars, and remote aprons . RP-37 does not provide guidance for aeronautical ground lighting systems. The 2025 update adds new recommendations for airside apron tasks, adjacent areas, uniformity, color rendition, sloping areas, ambient lighting near runways ("control zones"), additional use of task lighting, and consideration of sustainable design.
