NFPA 664: Standard for the Prevention of Fires and Explosions in Wood Processing and Woodworking Facilities, 2007 Edition
1.1 Scope. This standard shall establish the minimum requirements for fire and explosion prevention and protection of industrial, commercial, or institutional facilities that process wood or manufacture wood products, using wood or other cellulosic fiber as a substitute for or additive to wood fiber, and that process wood, creating wood chips, particles, or dust. 1.1.1 Woodworking and wood processing facilities shall include, but are not limited to, wood flour plants, industrial woodworking plants, furniture plants, plywood plants, composite board plants, lumber mills, and production-type woodworking shops and carpentry shops that are incidental to facilities that would not otherwise fall within the purview of this standard. 1.1.2* This standard shall apply to woodworking operations that occupy areas of more than 465 m2 (5000 ft2) or where dust-producing equipment requires an aggregate dust collection flow rate of more than 2549 m3/hr (1500 ft3/min).
