Good Environmental Livestock Production Practices (GELPP): Concentrated Livestock Operations - Production Areas

Reflects substantive revisions based on the initial Canvass review. While the revisions are considered substantive, they do not alter the basic scope and intent of the standard. This standard includes GELPPs related to livestock production areas at animal feeding operations (AFO). The standard was developed to address specific environmental challenges within livestock production areas of the livestock industry. This standard includes requirements that are based on best management practices developed by industry, government, and university experts. Operations that adhere to this standard will reduce the risk of adverse environmental and odor incidents resulting from their activities. The standard applies to all types of concentrated livestock operations including but not limited to hogs, beef cattle, dairy, meat birds, and egg layers. This standard is applicable to any livestock operation that plans to: 1) minimize its potential to generate negative environmental impacts; 2) demonstrate good environmental stewardship; and 3) improve relationships with all parties directly or indirectly affected by the operation. This standard was listed for public review in the 7/13/2001 issue of Standards Action. It is being resubmitted due to substantive changes to the text.
