Furniture - Safety, strength and durability - Requirements and test methods for non-domestic seating
This document specifies requirements for the safety, strength, and durability of all types of non-residential seating intended for use by adults with a body weight not exceeding 110 kg, including office visitor chairs. This document is not applicable to permanently mounted row seating, office task chairs, chairs for educational institutions, outdoor seating, and connecting elements for row seating, for which other European Standards exist. It is also not applicable to industrially used task chairs. This document does not contain requirements for the durability of upholstery materials, castors, tilt and tilt mechanisms, or height adjustment devices on seats. This document does not contain requirements for resistance to ageing, deterioration, or flammability. This document does not contain requirements for electrical safety. Annex A (normative) contains test methods for finger traps, shear, and crush points. Annex B (normative) contains a method for testing the durability of the seat at points D and G under side-to-side loading. Annex C (normative) provides a method for testing the durability of the leg rest. Annex D (normative) provides the determination of the seat load point for seating with suspended flexible material. Annex E (informative) provides additional drop tests. Annex F (informative) provides information on test levels relative to the intended use. Annex G (informative) provides recommended dimensions for chairs for non-residential use. Annex H (informative) provides a justification for seats with a single support column.
