Refrigerating systems and heat pumps - Safety and environmental requirements - Part 1: Basic requirements, definitions, classification and selection criteria

This European standard specifies the requirements for the security of persons and property, provides instructions in regard to the protection of the environment and contains procedures for operation, maintenance and repair of refrigeration equipment and the recovery of Refrigerants. The word "Chiller" in this European standard includes heat pumps. This part of EN 378 sets the classification applicable to refrigeration systems and selection criteria. The classification and selection criteria are applied in parts 2, 3 and 4. This standard applies to: a) stationary and mobile refrigeration systems of all sizes, with the exception of air conditioning systems in motor vehicles, which are covered by specific product standards such as ISO 13043 b) indirect cooling or heating systems; (c) the site of the refrigeration systems; d) parts replaced after the adoption of this standard and added components, provided that they are not identical in function and performance; ...
