Gas cylinders - Cylinder valves - Specification and type testing (ISO 10297:2024, Corrected version 2024-05)
This document specifies design, type testing and marking requirements for: a) cylinder valves for fitting to refillable portable gas cylinders; b) Main shut-off valves (except ball valves) for bottle bundles; c) cylinder or main shut-off valves with integrated pressure regulator (VIPR, en: valves with integrated pressure regulator); NOTE 1 These include the following specific VIPR designs where: 1) the pressure regulator serves as the primary valve actuation mechanism (VIPR Type B). This also includes designs where closure of the primary valve actuation mechanism is achieved by closing the seat of the pressure regulator. 2) the primary valve actuation mechanism is located on the low pressure side of the pressure regulator (VIPR-Type C). d) Valves for pressure drums and large cylinders containing compressed, liquefied or dissolved gases. NOTE 2 Unless there is a risk of ambiguity, cylinder valves, main shut-off valves, VIPR and valves for pressure drums and bulk cylinders are referred to collectively in this document by the term "valves". This document does not apply to: - valves for cryogenic systems, portable fire extinguishers and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG); - Quick-opening cylinder valves (e.g. for fire-fighting, explosion protection and rescue applications) - Requirements for quick-opening cylinder valves are specified in ISO17871, which contains normative references to this document; -self-closing bottle valves and ball valves. NOTE 3 Requirements for valves for cryogenic vessels are specified in ISO21011 and described at regional level, e.g. in EN1626. Requirements for LPG valves are specified in ISO14245 or ISO15995. Requirements for self-closing cylinder valves are described in ISO17879. Requirements for ball valves are described in ISO23826. Requirements for valves for portable fire extinguishers are specified at regional level, for example in the EN3 series of standards. This document only covers the function of a valve as a closure. Other functions that may be integrated into the valve may be covered by other standards. However, such standards do not constitute requirements for the purposes of this document. NOTE 4 Definitions and specific requirements for VIPR beyond those specified in this document are set out in ISO22435 for industrial applications or ISO10524-3 for medical applications. Similarly, ISO15996 specifies certain specific requirements for residual pressure valves (RPV) with or without check function in addition to those specified in this document. NOTE 5 Certain requirements for valves for respiratory protective devices, beyond those specified in this document, are established at regional level, for example in the EN144 series of standards. Specific requirements for quick-opening valves for stationary fire extinguishing systems, other than those specified in this document, are specified in ISO16003 and at regional level, for example, in EN12094-4.
