Paints and varnishes - Pull-off test for adhesion (ISO 4624:2023)

This document defines three procedures for determining the adhesive strength. According to these methods, an attempt to tear is carried out on a one or multi-layered coating or similar products. These procedures include: - Procedure A: Use of two test stamps for checking both for rigid and deformable substrates; - Procedure B: Check only one page with a test stamp that is only suitable for rigid plates; - Procedure C: Use of test stamps, one of which is coated. These test procedures were found to be useful to compare the behavior of different coatings regarding their adhesive strength. They are particularly useful by enabling relative reviews of a number of coated sample plates that show significant differences in the adhesive strength of the coatings. The test can be carried out on numerous substrates. Depending on whether it is a deformable substrate, e.g. B. thin metal, plastic and wood, or around a rigid substrate, e.g. B. thick concrete and metal plates. In order to prevent the substrate from bending during the adhesive strength test, the sandwich structure is usually used. For special purposes, the coating material z. B. can be applied directly to the top of a test stamp.
