Acoustics - Hearing protectors - Part 1: Subjective method for the measurement of sound attenuation (ISO 4869-1:2018)


This document sets a subjective method for the measurement of sound insulation of hearing protectors on the threshold of hearing. The procedure is a laboratory technique that is designed to yield reproducible values under controlled test conditions. The values reflect the sound reduction properties of the hearing protector only insofar as the user wearing it in the same way as the test persons. For a more representative indication of performance in practice, the procedure can be applied according to ISO/TS 4869-5. This testing provides data obtained at low sound pressure levels (close to the threshold of hearing) are also representative of the acoustic performance of the hearing protectors at higher sound pressure levels.
