Corrosion tests in artificial atmospheres - Salt spray tests (ISO 9227:2022)

This document places the test device, the reagents and the processes to be used in the implementation of the exams with neutral salt sprays (NSS, EN: Neutral Salt Spray), acetic acid salt sprays (Aass, en: Acid Acid Salt Spray) and copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray lever , En: Copper-Accelerated Acid Acid Salt Salt) to assess the corrosion resistance of metallic materials with or without permanent or temporary corrosion protection. This document also describes the procedure used to evaluate corrosiveness in the test chamber. This document does not specify the dimensions or types of test samples, the duration of the stress or the evaluation of the results to be used for a specific product. Such details are given in the corresponding product specifications. The salt spray checks are particularly useful for the detection of weaknesses, such as pores and other damage, in certain metallic coverings and organic coatings as well as anodic oxide layers and layers of conversion. The NSS test is particularly applicable to: - metals and their alloys; - (anodic or cathodic) coatings; - layers of conversion; - Anodic oxide layers; - Organic coatings on metallic materials. The AASS test is particularly useful for checking decorative covers made of copper + nickel + chrome or nickel + chrome. It was also found to be suitable for checking anodic and organic layers on aluminum. The cass test is particularly useful for checking decorative covers made of copper + nickel + chrome or nickel + chrome. It is also suitable for checking anodic and organic layers on aluminum. The salt spray methods are all suitable for checking whether the quality of a metallic material, with or without corrosion protection, is preserved. They are not intended as a comparison test to classify different materials according to their corrosion resistance or to predict the long -term corrosion resistance of the tested material.
