SAE AMS 1424J-2009 (SAE AMS1424J-2009)

Deicing/Anti-Icing Fluid, Aircraft, SAE Type 1

This specification covers a deicing/anti-icing material in the form of a fluid. The fluid is generally used heated either diluted with water, or as supplied, for the removal of, and time-limited protection against, deposits of frost, ice, and snow on exterior aircraft surfaces prior to takeoff. Consult aircraft manufacturer's maintenance manual and service letters to determine any restrictions relating to the use of deicing/anti-icing fluids for type and model of aircraft being treated. Refer also to SAE ARP 4737. The manufacturer shall determine and report the lowest operational use temperature (LOUT) for the recommended dilutions of their fluid(s). The LOUT for an SAE Type I fluid is the lowest temperature at which the fluid has been tested and certified in accordance with the appropriate aerodynamic acceptance tests (3.5.3) while maintaining the 10 \mDC (18 \mDF) freezing point buffer (see SAE ARP 4737).
