CE Code Handbook, An Explanation of Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code
The Code covers all electrical installations for buildings, structures, and premises and is intended to apply to all voltages. Although low voltages might not pose a shock hazard, various conditions can lead to injury and damage to equipment, even at seemingly harmless voltage levels. The Code does not apply to installations used by electric, communication, or community antenna distribution system utilities in their function as utilities, as recognized by the regulatory authority having jurisdiction, including utility installations located in generating stations, central exchange buildings, buildings used as receiving/transmitting stations, and administration buildings closed to the public; facilities and equipment used in the operation of electric railways that are supplied from the circuit supplying the motive power; electrical installations and equipment used for railway signalling and communications and located outdoors or in buildings or parts of buildings used only for such electrical installations; aircraft of any type; self-propelled marine vessels, unless the vessels are stationary for periods longer than five months and are connected to a shore supply of electricity; and ships regulated by Transport Canada.
