Agricultural Front-End Loaders - Safety Requirements

Preface This is the first edition of CSA M682, Agricultural front-end loaders — Safety requirements. While this Standard is harmonized with European standards on agricultural loaders, it has been developed in response to the specific design and performance requirements of North American machinery. As indicated by the title, this Standard focuses on requirements for the safe design, performance, and operation of agricultural loaders intended for use on and around Canadian farms. Agricultural loaders are implements designed to be mounted on agricultural tractors. They should not be confused with construction and utility loaders, which are mobile machines designed entirely for earth moving and handling construction materials. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group. Scope 1.1 This Standard specifies safety requirements for the design and construction of agricultural front-end loaders (front loaders) designed to be mounted on agricultural wheeled tractors (as defined in CSA M684). The purpose of this Standard is to provide a reasonable degree of personal safety for operators and other persons during normal operation and servicing of agricultural front-end loaders on agricultural tractors. 1.2 In CSA Standards, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Legends to equations and figures are considered requirements.
