Mechanical Standards for Agricultural Machinery

Mechanical Agricultural Machinery Standards, a series of ISO standards dealing with tractors and associated agricultural machinery, cover safety, mechanical specifications, and more. With a focus on stability, guard openings, drive shafts, and belts, these standards provide an important component of the overall standardization effort for agricultural machinery.

ISO 16231-1:2013

Self-propelled agricultural machinery - Assessment of stability - Part 1: Principles

ISO 16231-1:2013 specifies principles for the assessment of stability with respect to the design and construction of self-propelled ride-on machines used in agriculture and the hazard of rolling over or tipping over, or both when the machine is used as intended and under the conditions foreseeable by the manufacturer. In addition, it specifies the type of information on safe working practices (including residual risks) to be provided by the manufacturer. ISO 16231-1:2013 is not applicable to ? machines with an unladen mass lower than 400 kg; ? machines covered by other machine specific standards dealing with the protection against rollover and tip-over (e.g. agricultural tractors, forestry tractors); ? hazards associated with road transport operations; ? free fall events; ? rollover as a result of impact collisions. ISO 16231-1:2013 is not applicable to machines manufactured before the date of its publication.

ISO 16231-2:2015

Self-propelled agricultural machinery - Assessment of stability - Part 2: Determination of static stability and test procedures

ISO 16231-2:2015 specifies a method to determine the centre of gravity of un-laden self-propelled machines, a method to determine the centre of gravity of laden machines and combinations with attachments, and methods to determine the static overturning angle. NOTE Requirements related to self-protective structures and ROPS are to be dealt with in a separate International Standard.

ISO 12140-1:2020

Agricultural trailers and trailed equipment - Drawbar jacks - Part 1: Design safety, test methods and acceptance criteria

This document specifies criteria for construction, establishes performance test methods and defines acceptance criteria for telescopic mechanical screw- and nut-type drawbar jacks and hydraulic drawbar jacks intended to be fitted on the implement tongue of interchangeable towed machinery [here after referred to as implement(s) ] as original equipment or as replacement jacks. In addition, it specifies minimum markings and information for use to be provided by the jack manufacturer. These jacks are used specifically for supporting the hitch points of implements during storage; lifting and lowering of implement tongues to facilitate attaching to or disconnecting from an agricultural tractor; and levelling an implement for stationary use.

ISO/TS 28923:2012

Agricultural machinery - Guards for moving parts of power transmission - Guard opening with tool

ISO/TS 28923:2012 specifies the safety requirements and their verification for the design and construction of fixed guards to be opened by the use of a tool and interlocking movable guards for moving parts of the power transmission on self-propelled ride-on machines and mounted, semi-mounted or trailed machines used in agriculture. In addition, it specifies the type of information on safe working practices (including residual risks) to be provided by the manufacturer. It deals with the significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant for fixed guards to be opened by the use of a tool and interlocking movable guards of moving parts of power transmission used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer. It is not applicable to guards of moving parts of the power transmission of agricultural and forestry tractors, aircraft and air cushion vehicles used in agriculture, lawn and garden equipment, or guards for PTO drive shafts between agricultural and forestry tractors and mounted or towed implements.

ISO/TS 28924:2007

Agricultural machinery - Guards for moving parts of power transmission - Guard opening without tool

ISO/TS 28924:2007 gives safety requirements, and the means of verifying them, for the design and construction of guards, able to be opened without a tool, which are used to guard the moving parts of the power transmission of self-propelled ride-on machines and mounted, semi-mounted or trailed machines used in agriculture. In addition, it specifies the type of information on safe working practices (including residual risks) to be provided by the manufacturer. It deals with the significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to guards of moving parts of power transmission used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer.

ISO 5675:2021

Agricultural tractors and machinery - General purpose quick-action hydraulic couplers

This document specifies the essential interface dimensions and the operating requirements for hydraulic couplers employed to transmit hydraulic power from agricultural tractors to agricultural machinery. It is applicable to couplers used in hydraulic lines other than those used for braking circuits. NOTE All hydraulic couplers are intended to be connected and disconnected frequently to allow the transfer of machinery from one tractor to another without the use of tools or special devices.

ISO 5673-1:2005

Agricultural tractors and machinery - Power take-off drive shafts and power-input connection - Part 1: General manufacturing and safety requirements

ISO 5673-1:2005 specifies the power take-off (PTO) drive shafts of a tractor or self-propelled machine used in agriculture and the power-input connection (PIC) of its implement, establishing a method for determining PTO static and dynamic torsional strength while giving manufacturing and safety requirements. It is applicable only to those PTO drive shafts and guards mechanically linked to the shaft by at least two bearings. It is not applicable to PTO drive shafts guarded by location or to the mechanical characteristics of overrun devices and torque limiters, nor are environmental aspects considered; neither is it applicable to PTO drive shafts and their guards manufactured before the date of its publication.

ISO 5673-2:2005

Agricultural tractors and machinery - Power take-off drive shafts and power-input connection - Part 2: Specification for use of PTO drive shafts, and position and clearance of PTO drive line and PIC for various attachments

ISO 5673-2:2005 gives the forms and applications of (PTO) drive shafts for tractors and self-propelled machines used in agriculture, and specifies the dimensions for, and clearance zone around, the implement power-input connection (PIC) for a variety of attachments. Its intent is to ensure proper clearance between the PTO drive line and adjacent components on the implement and tractor when both implement and tractor have compatible power levels. It is not intended as a complete guide for drive-line design and does not, for example, contain information on preventing drive-line vibration or sizing a torque limiting device. It is not applicable to combinations of implements with tractors having high ground clearance, such as those working in standing vegetable crops or sugar cane, nor to agricultural tractors designed for low ground clearance, such as for lawn mowing or ground care, which require a low centre of gravity; neither is it applicable to implements non-symmetrical in design by necessity due to their function.

ISO 3410:1989

Agricultural machinery -- Endless variable-speed V-belts and groove sections of corresponding pulleys

This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (1976). Specifies the main dimensions of V-belts intended for use on agricultural machinery (in particular harvester-thresher machines), together with the grove section of the corresponding fixed- or variable-diameter pulleys. Tabulates nominal values of datum length from 630 mm up to and including 5 000 mm. Some figures illustrate shapes and reference quantities of concern.

ISO 5289:2018

Agricultural machinery - Endless hexagonal belts and groove sections of corresponding pulleys

This document specifies the main dimensions of endless hexagonal belts intended for use on agricultural machinery (and, in particular, harvester-thresher machines), together with the groove section of the corresponding fixed-diameter pulleys.

ISO 4004:1983

Agricultural tractors and machinery -- Track widths

This International Standard cancels and replaces ISO Technical Report ISO/TR 4004-1975. Applies to the principal driven axle(s) of tractors and to macinery, including self-propelled machinery, uesd in fields for row-crops. It does not apply to tractors of special types, to walking tractors, to single-axle motor-driven machines, to two-wheeled propulsion units, or to agricultural machinery of special types.
