IEC 61029 Safety of Transportable Motor Operated Electric Tools

IEC 61029 Safety of Transportable Motor Operated Electric Tools

The IEC 61029 series of machine tool safety standards addresses the general requirements for transportable motor-operated electric tools. Moving on to the particular requirements for different individual tools, the series addresses a wide variety and delves into safety as it pertains to design, use, and commonly encountered hazards, as well as reasonably foreseeable misuse.

IEC 61029-1 Ed. 1.0 b:1990

Safety of transportable motor-operated electric tools - Part 1: General requirements

Deals with general safety requirements of transportable motor-operated electric tools. It applies in conjunction with a part 2 for a particular type of tool. Examples of these tools are circular saws, band saws, planers, thicknessers, radial arm saws, spindle moulders, thicknessers-planers, etc.

IEC 61029-2-1 Ed. 1.0 b:1993

Safety of transportable motor-operated electric tools - Part 2: Particular requirements for circular saws

Applies to transportable circular saws intended for cutting wood and similar materials with a blade diameter not exceeding 260 mm.

IEC 61029-2-2 Ed. 1.0 b:1993

Safety of transportable motor-operated electric tools - Part 2: Particular requirements for radial arm saws

Applies to radial arm saws intended for cutting wood or similar materials with a blade diameter not exceeding 260 mm.

IEC 61029-2-4 Ed. 1.0 b:1993

Safety of transportable motor-operated electric tools - Part 2: Particular requirements for bench grinders

Applies to bench grinders with a wheel diameter not exceeding 200 mm and a peripheral speed not exceeding 50 m/s.

IEC 61029-2-5 Ed. 1.0 b:1993

Safety of transportable motor-operated electric tools - Part 2: Particular requirements for band saws

Applies to transportable band saws having a length of saw band not more than 2 500 mm and band wheels having a diameter of not more than 315 mm.

IEC 61029-2-9 Ed. 1.0 b:1995

Safety of transportable motor-operated electric tools - Part 2: Particular requirements for mitre saws

Applies to transportable mitre saws intended for cutting non ferrous metals such as aluminium, wood and similar materials with a blade diameter not exceeding 400 mm. Tools comibining the function of mitre saw with the function of circular saw are not covered by this standard.

IEC 61029-2-10 Ed. 1.0 en:1998

Safety of transportable motor-operated electric tools - Part 2-10: Particular requirements for cutting-off grinders

This standard applies to cutting-off grinders for cutting metal. The diameter of the plain abrasive cutting-off wheel is less than 406 mm.

IEC 61029-2-11 Ed. 1.0 en:2001

Safety of transportable motor-operated electric tools - Part 2-11: Particular requirements for mitre-bench saws

Applies to combined mitre-bench saws intended for cutting non-ferrous metals such as aluminium, wood or similar materials. The blade diameter does not exceed 350 mm.

IEC 61029-2-12 Ed. 1.0 b:2010

Safety of transportable motor-operated electric tools - Part 2-12: Particular requirements for threading machines

IEC 61029-2-12:2010 applies to machines for creating external threads that either rotate the work piece or the cutting head.
