The IEC 61029 series of machine tool safety standards addresses the general requirements for transportable motor-operated electric tools. Moving on to the particular requirements for different individual tools, the series addresses a wide variety and delves into safety as it pertains to design, use, and commonly encountered hazards, as well as reasonably foreseeable misuse.
Deals with general safety requirements of transportable motor-operated electric tools. It applies in conjunction with a part 2 for a particular type of tool. Examples of these tools are circular saws, band saws, planers, thicknessers, radial arm saws, spindle moulders, thicknessers-planers, etc.
Applies to transportable circular saws intended for cutting wood and similar materials with a blade diameter not exceeding 260 mm.
Applies to radial arm saws intended for cutting wood or similar materials with a blade diameter not exceeding 260 mm.
Applies to transportable planers and thicknessers with a maximum planing width of 260 mm.
Applies to bench grinders with a wheel diameter not exceeding 200 mm and a peripheral speed not exceeding 50 m/s.
Applies to transportable band saws having a length of saw band not more than 2 500 mm and band wheels having a diameter of not more than 315 mm.
Applies to transportable diamond drills with water supply having a drill bit diameter of not more than 250 mm.
Applies to transportable diamond saws with water supply and with a saw blade diameter of not more than 250 mm.
Applies to transportable single spindle vertical moulders with a maximum cutter block diameter of 180 mm.
Applies to transportable mitre saws intended for cutting non ferrous metals such as aluminium, wood and similar materials with a blade diameter not exceeding 400 mm. Tools comibining the function of mitre saw with the function of circular saw are not covered by this standard.
This standard applies to cutting-off grinders for cutting metal. The diameter of the plain abrasive cutting-off wheel is less than 406 mm.
Applies to combined mitre-bench saws intended for cutting non-ferrous metals such as aluminium, wood or similar materials. The blade diameter does not exceed 350 mm.
IEC 61029-2-12:2010 applies to machines for creating external threads that either rotate the work piece or the cutting head.
