Language Metadata

Language metadata standards are published by ISO, DS, and BS. ISO and DS standards cover component metadata infrastructure. BS standards cover metadata for learning opportunities and language resource management.

ISO 24622-1:2015

Language resource management - Component Metadata Infrastructure (CMDI) - Part 1: The Component Metadata Model

ISO 24622:2015 describes a model that enables the flexible construction of interoperable metadata schemas for Language Resources (LRs). The metadata schemas based on this model can be used to describe resources at different levels of granularity (e.g. descriptions both on the collection level and on the level of individual resources).

ISO 24622-2:2019

Language resource management - Component metadata infrasctructure (CMDI) - Part 2: Component metadata specification language

The component metadata lifecycle needs a comprehensive infrastructure with systems that cooperate well together. To enable this level of cooperation this document provides in depth descriptions and definitions of what CMDI records, components and their representations in XML look like.

This document describes these XML representations, which enable the flexible construction of interoperable metadata schemas suitable for, but not limited to, describing language resources. The metadata schemas based on these representations can be used to describe resources at different levels of granularity (e.g. descriptions on the collection level or on the level of individual resources).

DS/ISO 19445:2016

Graphic technology û Metadata for graphic arts workflow û XMP metadata for image and document proofing

ISO 19445:2016 specifies the set of metadata to be used to communicate the approval status, proof preparation and viewing parameters for images and documents that are used in the graphic arts print production workflow.

DS/ISO 24622-1:2015

Language resource management - Component Metadata Infrastructure (CMDI) - Part 1: The Component Metadata Model

The scope of this part of ISO 24622 describes a model that enables the flexible construction of interoperable metadata schemas for Language Resources (LRs). The metadata schemas based on this model can be used to describe resources at different levels of granularity (e.g. descriptions both on the collection level and on the level of individual resources).

BS EN 15982:2011

Metadata for learning opportunities (MLO). Advertising (British Standard)

This European Standard specifies the characteristics of electronic representation of Learning Opportunities in order to facilitate their advertising and subsequent discovery by prospective learners.

Key users of the standard will be:
• those who provide opportunities for learning and wish to advertise them;
• those who offer electronic search services that aggregate results from multiple Learning Opportunity providers;
• those who wish to compare Learning Opportunities that have been represented electronically.

This European Standard specifies an abstract model for representing Learning Opportunities. The model specifies three resources about which metadata can be stored to facilitate advertising of Learning Opportunities:
a) the Learning Opportunity Provider;
b) the Learning Opportunity Specification; and
c) the Learning Opportunity Instance.

This European Standard specifies the characteristics of relations between the three resources and recommends a core set of metadata for each.
