Cranes - Power driven winches and hoists - Part 2: Power driven hoists (Austrian Standard)
This European Standard specifies requirements for power driven hoists with or without trolleys for which the prime mover is an electric, hydraulic or pneumatic motor. They are designed for the lifting and lowering of loads which are suspended on hooks or other hoisting mediums. Hoists are characterised by the use of either round steel ropes or belts driven by drums and link or roller chains driven by sprockets or sprocket wheels respectively. This European Standard applies to the following types of hoist: a) rope drum hoists with round steel ropes or belts. This European Standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EC Machinery Directive 98/37/EC (valid until 28 December 2009) and of the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC as of 29 December 2009, relating to power-driven hoists which were for the first time placed on the EEA market, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This standard is applicable to the design, information for use, maintenance and testing of power-driven hoists with or without trolleys for which the prime mover is an electric, hydraulic or pneumatic motor. They are designed for the lifting and lowering of loads which are suspended on hooks or other load lifting attachments. Hoists can be used either in cranes, in other machines, for instance rail dependent storage and retrieval equipment, monorail conveyors or by itself. The standard is applicable to the following types of hoist: a) rope hoist; b) chain hoist; c) belt hoist, exceptbelt hoist with steel belts as hoisting media; d) open type hoist; e) NGL building hoists including supporting structures. The standard is not applicable to the following hazards: - hazards related to building hoists for the transport of goods as defined in 2000/14/EC; - hazards related to the lifting of persons. The standard does not specify additional requirements for hazards related to the use of hoists in explosive atmospheres in underground works. The term crane includes all machines for cyclic lifting or cyclic lifting and moving of loads which are suspended on hooks or other hoisting mediums; it is also applicable to winches which comply with this definition. With respect to EN 14492-2:2007, the following changes have been made: a) the normative references have been adapted; b) a requirement for the marking of control devices has been added, 5.2.1; c) a requirement for the availability of the emergency stop function has been added, 5.2.3; d) the requirements for the safety-related functions of controls have been adapted to EN ISO 13849-1, 5.2.5; e) the requirement for the test of friction torque limiters has been modified, Table 5; f) the requirements for the user information on the sound pressure level and the marking have been adapted, 7.2 and 7.3; g) requirements for auxiliary hoists intended for transporting hot molten masses have been added, Annex B; h) Annex F Rated capacity and Annex K Noise test code have been modified; i) the formulas have been corrected, Annex J.2.5; j) Annex ZC on the relationship between this European Standard and the essential requirements of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been incorporated.
