Sustainability of construction works - Framework for assessment of buildings and civil engineering works

This document provides the principles and requirements for the assessment of buildings and engineering structures with regard to their environmental, social and economic quality, taking into account their technical and functional properties. The framework conditions apply to all types of structures and are relevant for new structures on their entire lifecycle and existing structures for their remainder of the useful life and the disposal phase / the end of the life or service life. The sustainability assessment of structures captures aspects and effects of structures using quantitative indicators. It includes the assessment of the influence of a building on the environmental, social and economic aspects and effects on the region (the influence area) and the local infrastructure beyond the property of the building and the engineering structure. The valuation of environmental, social and economic aspects of organizations, such as management systems, are not included in the standards developed under these framework conditions. However, decisions or measures that have an impact on the environmental, social and economic quality of the subject matter of the assessment may be considered if the valuation includes aspects associated with the management process.
