Hearing protectors - General requirements - Part 2: Earplugs

This document sets requirements for design, design, performance, marking, and user information for hearing plugs. In particular, it lays down the requirements for sound insulation of the hearing plugs, as measured in accordance with EN ISO 4869-1:2018. This document shall be used for hearing plugs designed for users who are able to follow the instructions provided and to understand the associated risks, to be able to use the hearing plugs correctly and to provide feedback on performance. Ergonomic aspects are taken into account within the requirements by including the interaction between the hearing protection user, the hearing protection plug and, where possible, the working environment in which the hearing protection plugs are likely to be used (see Annex ZA and EN 458).
