Measurement of radioactivity in the environment - Air: radon-222 - Part 3: Spot measurement method of the potential alpha energy concentration of its short-lived decay products (ISO 11665-3:2020)

This document describes point measurement methods for determining the activity concentration of the short-lived 222Rn follow-up products in the air and for calculating the potential alpha energy concentration. This document provides guidance on the point measurement of the potential alpha energy concentration at which sampling is carried out at a specific location for a few minutes and on the conditions when using the measuring instruments. This measurement method is applicable for the rapid determination of the potential alpha energy concentration. The obtained result cannot be extrapolated to estimate a potential alpha energy concentration of the short-lived 222Rn follow-up products over a year. Therefore, this type of measurement cannot be used to assess annual exposure or to determine whether radon or radon-derived products need to reduce the exposure to the population. This measurement method is designed for air samples with a potential alpha ene ...
