Paints and varnishes - Corrosion protection of steel structures by protective paint systems - Part 2: Classification of environments (ISO 12944-2:2017)
This document describes the most common environmental conditions, steel structures are exposed and makes a classification of these conditions on the basis of their corrosivity. This document - defined atmospheric corrosivity categories based on the mass loss (or thickness reduction) of standard samples with description of typical natural atmospheric conditions, steel structures are exposed, and given advice to determine the corrosiveness, – describes the different categories of environmental conditions for steel structures, which are located in water or into the ground and - information on stress corrosion, the corrosion can substantially increase or require a higher performance of the coating system. The corrosion loads associated with a specific environment or Korrosivitätskategorie are an essential parameter for the selection of the coating system.
