Non-destructive testing of welds - Radiographic testing - Part 2: X- and gamma-ray techniques with digital detectors (ISO 17636-2:2022, Corrected version 2023-02)

This document defines techniques of digital radiation test with the aim of achieving satisfactory and repeatable results. The techniques are based on generally recognized procedures and the basic theories on the subject. This document is applicable to digital radiation testing of melting welding compounds in metallic materials. It is applicable for welding connections of plates and pipes. In addition to the conventional importance, this document also understood other cylindrical bodies such as pressure lines, boiler drums and pressure vessels. This document specifies the requirements for the digital radiation testing of welding compounds on metal plates and pipes with X-ray and gamma rays using either computer radiography (CR) or radiography with digital matrix detectors (DDA, en: Digital Detector Arrays) Evidence of irregularities serves. It includes manual and automatic test using DDA. Digital detectors provide a picture with digital gray values that can be viewed and evaluated with a computer (Appendix E). This document determines the recommended procedures for the selection of the detector and the radiation technology. The selection of computer, software, monitor, printer and viewing conditions is important, but does not form the focus of this document. The procedure specified in this document contains the minimum requirements for the radiation procedure for the extraction process of digital continuity shots with a sensitivity to the detection of irregularities that is equivalent to radiography with films (determined in ISO 17636-1). This document does not determine admissibility limits for displays in the digital radiation recordings. ISO 10675 contains information about admissibility limits when checking welding seams (welding connections). If the contractual partners use lower test criteria, it is possible that the quality achieved is significantly lower than with strict use of this document.
