This part of IEC 61400 specifies the essential design requirements to ensure the structural integrity of wind turbines. Compliance with the requirements of this standard provides adequate protection against damage from all hazards during the intended life. This document applies to all subsystems of wind turbines such as operational management and safety functions, internal electrical systems, mechanical systems and load-bearing structures. This document applies to wind turbines of all sizes. IEC 61400-2 can be used for small wind turbines. IEC 61400-3-1 contains additional requirements for offshore wind turbines.
