This document defines general terms of conformity assessment (including accreditation of conformity assessment bodies) and the application of conformity assessment to promote trade. The general principles of conformity assessment and a description of the functional approach of conformity assessment are set out in Annex A. Conformity assessment interacts with other areas such as management systems, metrology, standardisation and statistics. The limits of the conformity assessment are not set in this document.
