Ball and Roller Bearing Mounting Accessories - Inch Design

Mounting accessories covered in this standard are commonly used for the location or fixing of ball and roller bearings to the shaft of a machine or mechanism. The purpose of the standard is to establish dimensions and minimum physical properties of these components consistent and compatible with ABMA and ANSI Standards relating to ball and roller bearings. Products manufactured in accordance with this standard will fulfill the expected function when used with properly-designed shafts. Load Ratings And Fatigue Life For Ball Bearings

Ball bearing performance is a function of many variables. These include the bearing design, the characteristics of the material from which the bearings are made, the way in which they are manufactured, as well as many variables associated with their application. The only sure way to establish the satisfactory operation of a bearing selected for a specific application is by actual performance in the application. As this is often impractical, another basis is required to estimate the suitability of a particular bearing for a given application. This is the purpose of this standard.

ANSI/ABMA 12.2-1992 (S2020)

Instrument Ball Bearings Metric Design

This standard covers the characteristics that define metric design instrument ball bearings, their boundary dimensions, tolerances, internal clearances, classification for selective assembly, and recommended practices for gaging, friction torque determination, load rating, operational life prediction and yield rate limitation.  The standard applies only to the size ranges covered by Paragraph 4, Boundary Dimensions.

Tapered Roller Bearings - Radial Inch Design 

This standard covers inch design radial tampered roller bearings of various types, part numbering systems, boundary dimensions, tolerances, and fitting practices. General ABMA standards which apply to various types of bearings should be consulted for tolerance definitions, gauging practices, mounting accessories, and method of evaluating load ratings.

ANSI/ABMA 20:2011 (R2020)

Radial Bearings of Ball, Cylindrical Roller and Spherical Roller Types - Metric Design

This standard includes:   (a) basic plan for the boundary dimensions of metric radial ball and roller bearings; (b) general rules for extension of the basic plans; (c) dimensions and tolerances for snap ring groove and locating snap rings; (d) dimensions for radial ball bearings with flanged outer ring; and (e) tolerances for boundary dimensions, chamfers, various runouts and internal clearance.   This standard does not contain any direction pertaining to internal bearing design nor any indication as to availability of bearings.   Airframe bearings, instrument ball bearings, needle roller bearings, tapered roller bearings, thrust bearings and other bearing types and series not conforming to these basic plans for boundary dimensions are covered in other ANSI/ABMA Standards.
